FIRST TIME VISITOR

Worship

We invite you to join us in worship.  We trust you will find we are an open and welcoming body of believers from all walks of life, who believe that through us, God’s love can be made known in the world.

Worship at First UMC is a blend of traditional and contemporary music.  You will hear the Chancel Choir, organ, and keyboard during the service with a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary songs from current Christian artists.

All persons are invited to receive Holy Communion which is served the first Sunday of each month.  We believe the Communion table is Christ’s table and open to anyone who seeks Christ’s love.

We invite families to worship together.  Children are always welcome to stay in the Sanctuary during worship but sometimes children aren’t ready for a full worship experience.  That is OK.  Following the Children’s Message, a special time during worship where children can come forward to hear a message just for them, children (birth-Preschool) can go to the nursery in Fellowship Hall or go back to sit with their families.   If you need a restroom, there is one outside the Sanctuary to the left of the steps to the balcony.

Look over the following ideas to help make worship a positive family experience.

  • Relax! God put the wiggle in children. Don’t feel you must suppress it in God’s house.
  • Sit toward the front where it is easier to see and to hear what is going on.
  • Use a gentle touch: an arm around your child’s shoulder, your hand in his/hers to give reassurance and appropriate redirection.
  • Quietly explain the service.
  • Help your child find the pages in the Hymnal. Do not become distressed if your child is unable to find the proper page.
  • Sing the hymns, pray, and voice the responses. Children learn liturgical behavior by copying yours.
  • If your child needs to leave the service, feel free to do so. Please come back!
  • Always remember that the way we welcome children in church directly affects the way they respond to church. Let them know that they are at home at First United Methodist Church.
  • Encourage your child to come forward for the Children’s Message using their “walking feet and listening ears” so that all may enjoy this special time.
  • Remember! Jesus invited children, with their wiggles and giggles, to come to Him. He invites them still.
